Horror movies in Bollywood have not impressed people that much. These movies are criticised for lack of creativity with horrific scenes, appearances of characters that play ghosts and background scores. The cinema has not evolved that much in this genre. - Tumbbad (2018)-This masterpiece is directed by RahiAnilBarve. It doesn’t have a star-studded cast but performances delivered by the cast are definitely star-studded. This movie is based in the 1900s, the story of a greedy man who discovers a technique of collecting gold from a well feeding its guard. Tragedy hits when this trait of his is passed to his son. Their hunger for obtaining gold increases and they have to pay a huge price. This well-crafted piece is worth a watch.
- Pari (2018)-Anushka Sharma in lead, this movie is directed by Prosit Roy. Contrary to its name, this is not a fairy tale but a supernatural horror film. Anushka Sharma’s performance is commendable. The story is about a girl who turns into an evil being, killing people who try to capture and torture her. It is a good movie to witness horror, mystery and fantasy.
- Street (2018)-A movie with a star-packed cast involving Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkumar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, AparshaktiKhurana and directed by Amar Kaushik. This movie is believed to be based on actual events that happened in UP. The story is of an evil woman who haunts men during certain festival days and how the village is freed from her spirit by three friends with the help of a bookseller and a writer. It has an interesting storyline.
- Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship (2020)-This movie is based on a true incident that took place in Mumbai back in 2011. It is directed by Bhanu Pratap Singh. The storyline is about an officer and a haunted ship and incidents that take place alongside. Vicky Kaushal played the role of an officer in charge of the job of moving that ship from a beach. The job seemed quite simple but it’s worth a watch how it becomes tedious with the presence of supernatural forces on the ship. It’s interesting to watch how the story takes twists and turns.
- Bulbbul (2020)-Bulbbul was a super hit movie with a powerful social message directed by AnvitaDuttGuptan. The role of bulbbul was played by TriptiDimri, who was praised a lot for her spectacular performance. Rahul Bose, Paoli Dam and Avinash Tiwary were in supporting roles. It is a story of a beautiful girl child who becomes a brave woman but circumstances and incidents turn her into a murderous which. She kills village men who torture/ harass women. It is beautifully written, directed and wonderfully performed by the entire cast. The new faces were praised a lot for their remarkable performances.
